***The pictures in this listing are of our production sample. The guitars are currently in production and will be available to ship soon. The production model will have a gold Hondo Guitars™ logo as well as the "Ponyboy" badge on the headstock. The only other detail change is that your guitar will have knurled speed knobs(as Hondo would have had back in the 80's). The guitar will also be serialized on its neckplate. If you have any questions about specific timeline on delivery, please call us at 918-663-3210, or email [email protected]
The Hondo Guitars™ Ponyboy takes inspiration from the Japanese Hondo Professional II Series of the mid-1980s.
After years of watching players upgrade production guitars with different pickups, electronics, shielding, nuts and setup work, we decided to build some of the most common changes into the guitar from the start. The Ponyboy pairs a Canadian Ash body and roasted Canadian Maple neck with a versatile set of USA-made Seymour Duncan pickups, CTS pots, premium switching and thoughtfully upgraded electronics.
The Classic Stack Plus and Vintage Hot Stack Plus deliver familiar single-coil character without the usual noise, while the Hot Rails bridge pickup adds considerably more muscle. Each pickup has its own mini toggle on/off switch which allows several more combinations than a typical S-style setup with a 5-way. A dedicated Series/Parallel switch lets you tame or unleash the bridge pickup to make this a truly versatile guitar that can be used in a variety of situations.
Each Ponyboy is fully wired, fitted with its bone nut and given its final setup at Tulsa Guitar Co. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The result is our take on what a production guitar can be when it's approached with a repair-shop mentality: familiar where it should be, upgraded where it matters, and a level of quality control that other manufacturers cannot offer at this price point.
Each guitar includes a Hondo Guitars™ branded tweed hardshell case with red interior and ships free within the mainland USA.
